A first-half goal from striker Sovan Dauna was enough to
give Cambodia a 1-0 victory on Sunday at the Gelora Bung Karno Stadium in Jakarta.
Dauna, who plays for Angkor Tiger Football Club in the Cambodian Premier League 1 (CPL 1), is making his AFF Under-19 Championship debut.
“Very good, Sovan Dauna,” Angkor Tiger FC owner Akihiro Kato said on Facebook.
Cambodia and Singapore are in Group B along with the Under-19 teams of Malaysia, Laos, and Timor-Leste. Group A includes Vietnam, Thailand, Indonesia, the Philippines, Myanmar and Brunei.
Cambodia’s next match will be against Malaysia on July 5, Laos on July 7, and Timor-Leste three days later.
The tournament follows a unique round-robin format, with the top two teams from each group advancing to the Round of 16.
