Russia deploys 8,500 US troops on high alert, Britain threatens Putin
The threat of war between Russia and Ukraine is growing. The Pentagon has placed 8,500 US troops on “high alert” for deployment in Eastern Europe. Pentagon spokesman John Kirby said the troops included members of the combat team, health workers, detectives and members of the surveillance team.
John Kirby said: “So far no orders have been issued for the deployment of these troops, they have not been assigned any mission. However, US troops may be deployed in Eastern Europe to strengthen NATO. Additional US troops will be deployed in Europe based on NATO’s decision.
British Prime Minister Boris Johnson has warned Russian President Vladimir Putin of dire consequences if an attack on Ukraine occurs. Johnson’s statement came after the Russian military announced in February that it would conduct a naval exercise 150 miles off the coast of Ireland. Russia has announced its strategy for 140 warships in the Atlantic, Pacific, Mediterranean and North Seas.
UN Secretary General Antonio Guterres has called for a political dialogue to reduce tensions between Ukraine and Russia. UN spokesman Stephen Dujarric said: “The United Nations seeks to resolve the issue through dialogue rather than war.” We call on all parties to take immediate steps to end the war and reduce border tensions.
Britain has delivered a large number of state-of-the-art anti-tank missiles and Anglo-Swedish anti-tank guided missiles to Ukraine in response to a possible Russian attack. It is thought that the Russian side will launch the first tank attack on the Ukrainian border. According to NATO military experts, Russia has deployed about 6,000 tanks on the Ukrainian border. Russia has deployed 36 Iskander missile launchers on the Ukrainian border.
America can take direct action
The United States has also decided to take direct action in the situation that has arisen in Russia and Ukraine. On Saturday, Pentagon officials in Maryland presented Biden with several options for dealing with Russia. One is the deployment of US troops, warplanes and warships to put military pressure on Russia. One to five thousand US troops could be sent to these countries at any one time.
