Smriti Mandhana was born on July 16, 1997 in Mumbai. His mother’s name is Smita Mandhana and his father’s name is Srinivas Mandhana. His father was a former district player. She wanted to see her unfulfilled dreams through her child hearing and memory. Seeing his brother play in the Maharashtra State Under-16 tournament inspired him to start playing cricket. At the age of 9, he was selected in the Maharashtra Under-15 team.
When he was 11 years old, he was already part of the Maharashtra Under-19 team. Although Smriti did not get a chance to start in the first two years of the XI. He scored three centuries and a double from unbeaten against Gujarat U-19 in the Under-19 inter-state ODI. With 224 off 150 balls, she became the first Indian woman to score a double century in a top-class game.
Strong scores continued in the next two Under-19 tournaments, in limited competition and thereafter, Smriti was called up for the Challenger Trophy. In the 2016 Women’s Challenger Trophy, she scored 192 and became the tournament’s top scorer, helping her team win the trophy by 62 runs without being eliminated in the final against India Blue.
Due to Smriti’s performance, he got his first call from the India team in 2013. He then debuted with Sushma Verma and Poonam Yadav. Coincidentally, his debut match was played at the same ground where he scored his double century.
Starting the innings with Mona Meshram, Smriti made 39 off 36 balls, giving India a strong start. The Indians won the match at that time. On November 30, 2014, Smriti scored his first Twenty20 International half-century against South Africa in Bangalore. Her consistent performances mean she won her first Women’s Twenty20 World Cup at just 18 years old.
