CAF Champions League 2022 Live quarter-final first leg match was played on Friday night with Algeria’s ES Setif disappointing Tunisia’s Esperance de Tunis.

The two teams drew 0–0 in a North African derby encounter that took place at the Stade du 5 Juillet 1962 in Algiers, with Esperance dominating the match from the start.

Esperance created better chances, but they were disappointed by goalkeeper Sofiane Khedira, who was in top form between sticks for the home team on the night.

There were sundowns without the services of Jorge Maluleka and Surprise Ralani, as Gaston Sirino kept his place in the line-up after a big win over the Golden Arrows on Tuesday.

The Brazilians started right when Lyle Lacey began the scoring with a free-kick that deflected into the bottom corner.

However, the hosts didn’t hold back for very long as they leveled with their first attempt on target, thanks to Tiago Azulao finishing at the near post.

Sundown should have restored their lead in the 34th minute when Themba Zwane scored the goalkeeper but ended up firing against the straight with an empty net before Peter Schullile pulled out of the rebound.

The visitors struggled to deal with the crosses coming into the field, as another ball in the box at 41 minutes found its way to Azualo, who saw off a straight wide from Dennis Onyango.

Petro completed the turnaround just before the break when Yano fired home from close after Onyango’s flick of Azulao was placed on the near post.

The Brazilians were eager to make a comeback and could have leveled at 53 minutes, but Shalulile was unable to run his close-range header near Wellington.

The visitors responded with a double change just after the hour mark, as Sirino and Thapelo Morena made way for Lebohang Mabo and Neo Mama.

Sundown was almost further behind when Azulao’s ball hit the back of the net in the 75th minute, though the build-up cut short the celebrations for an offside.

Sundowns’ coaching staff was forced to reshuffle a few minutes later when full-back Khuliso Mudau was stretched and was replaced by Serbian striker Pavol Safran.

Sundown had the ball behind the net courtesy of a fine strike from Neo Mama, but the goal was dismissed after the video assistant referee saw a foul in the build-up, as the hosts held for the win.

Petro will miss the services of Atletico defender Quinito and their Portuguese coach Alexandre Santos will have to find a suitable replacement for the Angolan international.

Petro is expected to provide some experience from Brazilian goalkeeper Wellington, Soares, and forward Tiago Azulao, especially Soares who previously spent time playing regularly in the Portuguese Primeira Liga.

CAF Champions League 2022 Live  match preview

Sundown has scored 11 goals without a loss in their last two games on the home front and will be a concern for Petro Atlético.

In addition, the fact that Masandavana has avoided Champions League defeats four times this season and won two games on the road, including upsetting Al Ahly, may worry Petro.
